St Gluvias Cricket & Social Club Newsletter Number 20

June 2011

Practices This Week

Owing to the friendly fixture on Tuesday and the Social XI game on Wednesday, those who can make it are encouraged to join us for a training / net session on Thursday evening (9th June).

Management Committee

Next Meeting is on Monday 13th June, 8.00pm.

Annual Dinner

Members are advised to book a date in their diaries for the Annual Presentation Dinner on Saturday 24th September, at the Falmouth Hotel. After such a successful Dinner and Presentations last year, it is really hoped that we can smash our recent attendance record this time. Cost will be around £20.

Ground Help

As you will know, much of our Clubroom and Ground is in excellent condition and a number of recent events have gone very well indeed. However, one or two odd things are letting us down. Notably, the bottom boundary boards look shabby and, so far, no-one has felt inclined to clean and / or paint them. Other jobs include “staining” the wooden benches in front of the pavilion and continuing to tidy the hedges and front entrance to the Ground.

If you have a bit of free time, could you possibly help out? Equipment and paint, brushes, etc are available in the grounds shed so, if you need access, just let one of the main pavilion keyholders know – that’s the senior officers, captains and bar staff – and they’ll access the key for you.

Please do try to help us to achieve peak condition for events like the Andrew Cup Final in July, Youth Festival in August (massive this year!) and, first of all, the Cornwall Schools’ U13 match against Millfield this Sunday, 12th June.

More volunteers!

Please could we have some volunteers to help with specific jobs at our Six-a-Side tournament, which we are putting on for local works teams on Sunday 19th June. Anyone fancy doing a Barbecue, ….. or running the raffle, …. doing some umpiring / scoring? Contact Pete Hesketh for information.

Youth Festival (7-12 August)

This year, for the first time, St Gluvias CC will be organising food and entertainment in the evenings at the Cornwall Youth Cricket Festival. We’re planning a barbecue, curry night, etc and a quiz, race night, karaoke, singing group, etc. If you’ve got any other ideas we could pinch, or you could help to staff any of these, please let Peter Hesketh know. We’ll be entertaining the campers from Saturday 6th August, right through to Friday 12th, so you’ve got plenty of scope!

Family Fun Day

Sunday 26th June sees our first Family Fun Day, when we’ll be entertaining the kids (big and small!!) with things like tennis, volleyball, boules and rounders in a picnic-style atmosphere. More details later.

Playing Kit and other Clothing for sale

We still have playing kit for sale here.

Other Events

Apart from the Festival “specials”, current scheduled events include Quiz Nights on June 25th and July 23rd. However, watch this space for more!

As a general guide, evening events start at 8pm, with Bar open at 7.30

CATERING: Is there anyone who would like to prepare and sell food on some of the Saturday evenings? Your efforts would be much appreciated and we would be making money for the club, both in the kitchen and on the Bar.

Any news or ideas, please, to: mitch@cornwallcricketboard.com
